What about data acquisition, storage and analysing

Part 1 | Acquisition

This part starts with a presentation on data acquisition systems and treats following subjects:
  • digital and analogue sensors
  • embedded PC hardware (PC104)
  • real-time OS (RTAI)
The practical part consists in a simple data acquisition, based on a standard PC parallel port, giving the attendees the possibility of making their first practical experiences.

Pre-Requisits:

  • technical interests
  • C knowledge is useful /helpful

Part 2 | Storage

This part starts with a presentation covering the following topics:
  • principles of data storage (flat file, database systems)
  • an introduction to relational database models (ER-Model)
  • structured query language (SQL)
  • database administration tools
  • standard database interfaces (ODBC, JDBC,..)
In the practical part a database is designed, based on the data acquired in the first part of the tutorial.

Part 3 | Analysing

This part starts with a presentation covering the following points:
  • visualisation tools (gnuplot,[xm]grace,..)
  • data analysing software (R, octave, ...)
The practical part gives the attendees the possibility to make their first experiences with gnuplot and the statistical (mathematical) tool R.

Pre-Requisits:

  • basic mathematical knowledge
  • basic programming knowledge (what is an if statement, a for loop ...)
